Food waste is a USD 1 trillion problem worldwide, and the problem is particularly prevalent in growing cities. In the context of developing Asia, how can we alleviate pressure on the food supply chain and address the challenges of its societal and environmental impacts? Technology is one lever, and interestingly food waste reduction and remediation solutions can stem from a number of fields of research like animal nutrition, biomaterials, food safety and traceability, and many others. But more than ever solutions for such complex issues need to be designed holistically.
