Isabelle Decitre was invited to speak at the AquaSG 16’ conference, the annual aquaculture conference held in Singapore and organised by the Asian Aquaculture Network.
At the end of a three days of workshops and discussions around “Innovation and Investment in Aquaculture” she presented her perspective on venture capital investment in aquaculture to a public of researchers, investors, farmers and other stakeholders from the international aquaculture industry gathered at Temasek Polytechnic.
Whilst aquaculture is showing great demand dynamic throughout the world, and especially in Asia, which delivers 88% of the seafood consumed worldwide, it has traditionally been a not been the favourite sector for investors. Perceived as a risky bet, with listed companies showing volatile performances, aquaculture appears as even more risky when it comes to venture capital investments. Common wisdom seems to drive to invest in an expansion operation rather than a startup. Yet technology can really make a difference in this industry bound to grow to meet the world’s protein demand. And securing early stage funding is crucial for entrepreneurs.
As part of its ambition to foster innovation in Agtech & Foodtech across APAC, Isabelle presented the Future Food Asia platform. Disruptive aquaculture projects will be most welcome to the Future Food Asia Award, to be launched in January 2017.
